Blogmas 2020: day 5

Have you been naughty or nice?

If you have been naughty, then you should probably be preparing yourself for your demise tonight when Krampus shows up!

December 5th is known as Krampus night. Krampus is a European folklore creature that is half goat and half demon. It is said that he comes on the night of December 5th to take all the misbehaved kids and punish them by drowning, eating, or transporting them to hell.

The tale also says that good kids leave their shoes out for Krampus to fill with treats and naughty kids leave a birch rod.

I never knew about this folklore until a few years ago when we watched the movie, Krampus. Though there were a couple parts that made me jump, I actually enjoyed the movie. It really makes you think about where you would stand if Krampus came. In the movie, the family is constantly quarreling with each other. Let’s face it, what family doesn’t have some kind of dysfunction? Wouldn’t we all be doomed?

Luckily, I have survived every Krampus night thus far in my life.

I wonder how my kids would feel if we introduced Krampus the same way that Santa is prevalent to us. I do think it could be traumatizing for their ages, but I can’t lie, it does sound amusing.

Have you ever heard of Krampus? Have you see the movie?
