Okay, I understand I was not successful in my hopes for daily posts, but whatever. Life happens and life goes on. Here we are though, day 28! Can you believe it is already the end of October!?
We also had our first snowfall tonight! ❄
Anyways! Tonight we did probably my favorite Halloween tradition: carving pumpkins!
I love everything about carving pumpkins; the guts and goo, the cutting, picking out something to pertain to each of our personalities, and seeing them glow from the candle light in the dark.

So, this year, we have 5 people in our family. I don’t know what other people do, but I always get one for each person regardless of age. Obviously that means we got 5 pumpkins! My go to for inspiration is pinterest. I look for ideas for the things the kids are into as well as what I am feeling. I like to go for more intricate designs, but it really depends on what the kids want.
This year I figured Pickle would want something related to Sonic or maybe something scary, but he decided on a Pokeball. For the first time in his life, he actually was not appalled by the idea of touching pumpkin guts. He cleared it out with the help of meena (my mom).
Then Chris carved it for him and he [Pickle] painted part of it red. You can’t see the red in the picture, but know it is there.
All month long Monkey has been into witches. I was pretty sure she was going to tell me she wanted a witch or one of her favorite Disney princesses (Belle, Ariel, or Cinderella). But, when I asked her what she wanted she very confidentially yelled “a bampire” (yes with a b sound, she is only 2.5 years old). I was shocked and said okay, what kind of vampire. I was wondering where her mind was; a scary vampire, just something with fangs, or Drac from Hotel Transylvania. She ultimately decided on Drac. She refused to touch the guts, but had no problem trying to scoop it with a spoon and flick it all over the floor.
The dogs tend to love her side of the table. I looked up Drac on Pinterest and freehanded him onto the pumpkin. It doesn’t quite have his head shape, but oh well. You can at least tell he is a vampire.
Bug being only 6 months old, isn’t really “into” anything specific. I let my mom decide what to put on his pumpkin. She decided on Mickey Mouse. I free-handed it on the pumpkin and carved it out.
Finally it was my pumpkin’s turn. I had so many ideas floating around based on pictures on pinterest. Then I thought, people are going to see this pumpkin. How cool would it be to put something on there, to get their attention and maybe, just maybe get them to look into it further. I am not one to debate politics often, or at all to be honest, but this go-round I feel so strongly about one candidate. That man, is Andrew Yang. I decided to dedicate my pumpkin to the cause of getting his name out there. I love everything he stands for. Chris did not carve his own pumpkin. I think he was too tired and possibly sore (he had a bit of a booboo trying to climb over a photography setup 😬). Maybe I will get to carve another if he doesn’t want to.
