Merry Christmas!
Today was a wonderful day! I knew if I didn’t wake up before Pickle he would probably start opening stuff on his own. Though we told him the rule was he had to wait. I decided to set my alarm anyways. I woke up at 7am and just laid there for 10 minutes, Chris was already awake. He had set up the tripod with the camera to record opening gifts. I decided to go ahead and wake up the kids, which didn’t take much effort. Something about hearing the name “Santa” makes kids pay attention.
Towards the end of the kids opening their gifts I realized some things were missing. One of the things I was excited to see Poppy open. Of the boxes that were left I just knew none of them were the right size to be that gift. I kept looking around trying to see if maybe I was blind and it was in plain sight. I realized quickly it wasn’t. I mouthed to Chris “bus” and we both realized that wasn’t the only thing missing. We kept taking turns sneaking out to the garage searching for a box that we may have forgotten that we had, or just anything we forgot we might have put it in. Still couldn’t find it. Eventually I had given up on looking and figured we would move on to the big reveal. The kids both got new bikes and helmets. They were seriously so excited. I just love watching their excitement.
Chris still hadn’t given up on looking for the lost gifts. I went ahead and made breakfast; a french toast bake. It was yummy. The kids of course had to start playing with everything right away. At some point, I come out of the kitchen and Chris says, “look we missed some behind the tree!” The kids and I look and the missing presents were there! They opened the gifts and I was finally able to rest knowing they didn’t go permanently missing. We spent a couple hours putting things together and playing.
My family came over, we ate dinner, and opened gifts. These kids really are spoiled rotten haha. After gifts I heard what sounded like a helicopter. At some point the majority of the family ended up outside trying to see what was going on. It turns out there was a search going on a few blocks away (someone hiding under someone’s deck is all my mom could catch on the police scanner). Once the hype wore off and the helicopter left, everyone came back inside. We talked for a bit and then everyone started to leave.
I love Christmas, but am always a bit sad when it ends.
I didn’t take any pictures today, but we did get some nice family videos on the camera.
All in all, it was a great day! My sink is full of dishes and our hearts are full of love and joy.
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, however you chose to spend it!
