One important part of Christmas is putting up and decorating your Christmas tree.
Fun fact: Did you know Christmas trees did not start from Christianity? It is said that Pagans actually were the ones who started the Christmas tree tradition. “Pagans in Europe used branches of evergreen fir trees to decorate their homes and brighten their spirits during the winter solstice.” (SOURCE : https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2016-12-19/the-history-of-the-christmas-tree/8106078 )
Aside from that little fun fact, I do participate in putting up and decorating a tree. I would like to reiterate that I am not religious. If you’d like more about that, check out this post —> Non-religious Christmas. I wish I could have a real tree in our house, but having animals, that can be dangerous. Did you know the water used to keep the tree alive at the base is toxic to animals? I just don’t want to gamble that.
Every year, until this year, we have decorated in some sort of theme. Usually it is a color theme. Once Pickle came into the world we started a new tradition. Every year he would get to pick out 1 ornament. When Poppy came into our lives we did the same with her. It is a fun tradition as we get to remember their favorite things each year as they grow.
Since they were both infants for their first Christmases, their first ornament is their “my first Christmas” ornament with their pictures in them. Poppy was older on her first Christmas so she did pick out an ornament, too.
Here are the ornaments Pickle has chosen. I can’t seem to find the one from 2014, hmmm, weird.
Here are Poppy’s.
I always put their name and year on the ornament somewhere so that they will always know who picked it and when. It is one of my favorite Christmas traditions that we started. We will continue to do it every year and next year the newest family member will have his or her picture ornament going on the tree.
What kind of ornaments do you use? Let me know in the comments!
Until tomorrow,
Jenn
The ornaments are so gorgeous!
