Blogmas Day 1
Hurray it is officially December! December is probably my most favorite time of the year.
I love the snow. I love Christmas everything. My birthday is in December, but even if it wasn’t it would still be my favorite month. I feel like it’s the most creative/crafty month for me.
This year I wanted to try something new for our Christmas countdown. In previous years I made advent calendars filled with activities. Last year, I wrapped all our Christmas movies and 25 pieces of candy that Pickle got to unwrap (one a day). This year, I was thinking about doing the elf on the shelf thing. I do like the idea of the elf, but I cannot justify spending money on it when we are working on paying debt off. Sticking to our changing our habits plan. I’m proud of us for that.
This year I really want to focus more on others. By others I mean those that are truly in need.
We made the executive decision that this year we will not be buying presents for adults like we normally do. In reality, it becomes like a money exchange. The thoughtfulness behind gifts is always a special thing, but I have noticed that sometimes gifts we have gotten for others tend to just get set to the side to collect dust. I have started to feel like we are wasting money on people who don’t need any more things. Why couldn’t we use that money for people who truly need something?
Christmas for me now as an adult is more about the time spent with family than it is about presents. (It was all about presents when I was little). It is about fostering the traditions with my family just like I had when I was little. Quality time and creating memories. Now that I realize Christmas isn’t all about presents, I am perfectly happy not spending unnecessary money.
Right now I have a few ideas in mind for giving back to our community. You will have to keep looking for my blogmas posts to see what happens 😁.
