Having A Familiar Face

I don’t know what it is, but apparently I have a familiar face.

I don’t know how often this happens to other people, but I get a lot of remarks from people who feel like they have met me before. I also have had a few encounters of being told I look like someone else.

Somewhere between 5 and 10 years ago, I was at a checkout lane at Wal-Mart. I was standing there minding my own business when this complete stranger comes up to me.

He says, “you look a lot like that one lady..”

I questioned him back, “uh what lady?”

“You know the one in politics, what’s her name?” He was trying to remember.

I sort of just stared off because I didn’t follow politics whatsoever at that time period, until he finally remembered.

“Sarah Palin!” He shouted.

I had no idea who that was at the time. I answered back with, “you think so?”

“Yep, maybe it’s the glasses though.” He smirked.

Of course I had to figure out who she was after that and, uh no, I do not think we look alike at all expect for having fashionable black frame glasses.

That’s the only time, in my adult life, that I have been told I look like a famous person.  (Incase you’re wondering when I was younger people thought I looked like Stephanie from the show Full House.)

In the last 6 months or so, more people have told me that they feel like they have met me before. They always say I look so familiar, but they don’t know where from.

Before Pickle started school we took him to the notorious first day of school hair cut. The stylist kept looking at me until she finally said, “do I know you from somewhere?”

I didn’t recognize the woman, but then again I am not always the best at remembering people. I told her I didn’t think so and she asked if I had been to certain places or where I had worked before. None of it correlated with her. She seemed to be really mind boggled by it though.

I have been at my current job for almost a month now. I have met a lot of people. On my first day of work, the woman who was training me and myself were seriously twinning. I didnt say anything to her, but another associate commented on it to me.

A week or so later, I was walking and one associate thought I was the woman who trained me. She said she thought I was her and that she grew several inches overnight. I said nope, “it’s just Jenn.”

Then last night, I was working in another department and someone else tells me “you look familiar, but I don’t know from where.”

I responded with, “I do? Well you don’t to me..” Other than the fact that we had seen each other at work multiple times.

I don’t know where they think they know me from because truth is, I sort of have been living under a rock for the last 6 years. I really don’t get out much because I am a hermit crab and I like my little hermit house.

I personally haven’t had many encounters where someone looks familiar, but I don’t know where from. That I can remember, I would say less than a handful of times.

Have you been told you look familiar? Have you been told you look like someone else? I am curious how often this happens to others. Let me know in the comments below!

  1. That happens to me a lot at my job. In my case though, it can be an advantage. People tend to trust familiar faces. I’m a nurse, trust is necessary. I usually just laugh it off at this point.

  2. Yes, this does happen to me as well to the point it is annoying and I tend to have a regular speach to convince others that we have never met.

Usually they don’t remember where they know me from, but I have had many who honestly thought they knew my name.

I have hitch hiked coast to coast 3 times, been to or thru 45 states, been on cruises, and on average, at least 8 times per year someone mistakes me for someone else.

I’m not that attractive. Maybe years ago, but it seems the older I get it happens more often.

I am great with people, but I only like but a few. I am a homebody as well. I wonder if it’s more about my eyes than my face, as I have a few scars.

It’s all weird. I’m glad I am not the only one.

  3. About once a week someone comes up to me and tries to figure out how they know me. It’s getting super annoying. Just trying to figure out why I’m like this.
