The last couple of years it seems like everyone is on this Fall craze. Not that I am complaining because it is one of my favorite times of the year (tied with Christmas) as well.
There is something about pumpkins that gets me excited. Yes, I like pumpkin spiced things, too. Plus, the colors that Fall brings; oranges, reds, yellows, and even some brown is okay. It makes for beautiful pictures that is for sure. Though, it doesn’t ever feel like the Fall lasts that long around here. It goes from “Oh that is nice weather” to “holy crap it is freezing” in the matter of a month or so.
I can’t forget to mention, two of my favorite holidays are in the Fall. Halloween and Thanksgiving. I absolutely love Halloween. I celebrate Halloween the entire month of October. Sometimes, if I am feeling antsy it creeps into September, too. Am I the only one who does that? I love finding and making Halloween decorations for the house. Last year we had our fake fire place, that we used for Christmas the year before, brought out early. I decorated it for Halloween; it was a fun project. I am trying to find the picture of it so you can see for yourself. I will insert it here when I do.
I also LOVE going to the Pumpkin Patch. We happen to have an awesome one nearby. It has been a family tradition to go every year since I was very young. We have carried in the tradition with taking our kids. This year will be Poppy’s first time!
I also have always been a fan of dressing up. So Halloween is naturally one of my favorites as you can be whatever you want to be. Last year I was pregnant for Halloween. Pickle was the Big Bad Wolf, my husband and I dressed up as pigs, and I had a little pig face with a bow on the belly part of my shirt = The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf. I thought it was cute and unique. This year, I have several ideas, now that we are a family of four. I like the family costumes. Right now my top three ideas are; The Addams Family, Alice in Wonderland, or having Pickle be the Grinch and Poppy be Cindy Lou Who. Though, nothing is set in stone yet. Anyway, I love carving pumpkins to see how creative I can get. Last year we also painted pumpkins. Mine wound up looking like this:
The painted pumpkins last a lot longer than carved ones. Plus, the younger kids have an easier time actually participating in painting than trying to use knives, which are sharp and dangerous for young ones (in case you didn’t know).
Then, of course, the trick or treating part of Halloween is expected to be fun. Who doesn’t love getting candy? Though, lately, people are more interested in healthier options; which is fine, too.
After Halloween comes Thanksgiving. I like Thanksgiving because it brings the family together. I also like teaching my children to be thankful for things and people. It is a great time to keep reminding them that they have a lot to be thankful for. I hope it sticks with them. I want to raise grateful children.
Plus, like many other families the food on thanksgiving is a given.
The Fall season also brings in cooler weather. It is the kind of weather that you leave your windows open for. Turn the AC/Furnace off because you don’t need it. If you do get a little chilly you just cuddle up in a blanket. Fall just seems like a cozy, comfortable, and airy time. Though, like I said, it doesn’t seem to last long enough around here.
I have always loved the Fall season. What about you, do you have a favorite season? Do you enjoy the Fall?
Let me know in the comments.
