Everybody is different. Society tries to tell us that being different is not okay. Yet, none of us are exactly alike. Everybody has their own idea on what is considered attractive. Beauty means different things to different people. Some people think that beauty is strictly outer appearances. Even then, everyone has their own idea on what is considered a beautiful person to look at. Some of us believe that beauty comes from within.
There is something entirely frustrating about finding someone attractive on the outside, only to find out that they are not so attractive on the inside. Have you ever met someone and thought, “Wow, they are a good-looking person. I would like to get to know them.” Only to find out that they are actually cruel and then it changes the way that you see them on the outside. An ugly heart can make even the most beautiful person, ugly seeming.
I believe that beauty comes from within. I don’t care if you are a size zero or a size 100. If you are nice to me, I am going to be nice to you. If you are not nice to me, then I am still going to be nice to you because I believe that people deserve respect, even if they do not respect you. We are all unique for a reason and I like it that way.
Loving yourself seems to be a difficult thing in today’s self-absorbed society. We are too busy checking up on everyone else, instead of focusing on improving ourselves. Nobody is perfect and I do not claim to be even close. Instead of wasting time on social media comparing my life to those I know or once knew, I choose to spend my time focusing on how I can better myself. How I can love the person that I am or fix the parts of me that I am not particularly fond of.
I don’t want my children thinking that the only way to be is obsessed with what everyone thinks about them. I want them to love who they are, no matter what someone else might say. I hope that you find yourself feeling the same. You should love yourself. It is hard to accept love and love someone if you do not first love who you are. Beauty starts from within. I believe we all have the potential for great things if we so choose. All it takes is for us to believe in ourselves and put the hate aside.
Much love,
-Jenn
